iOS Home Screen Widgets
momoChef offers beautiful home screen widgets that give you quick access to your recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists without opening the app.
Available Widget Types
momoChef provides three widget types to keep your cooking life organized:
Recipe of the Day
Discover a new recipe from the community each day, curated based on your preferences and dietary settings.
- Shows a featured recipe with photo, title, and cooking time
- Taps open the full recipe in the app
- Updates daily with new inspiration
- Available in small and medium sizes
Meal Plan Widget
See your planned meals for the day or week at a glance.
- Displays today's scheduled meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
- Shows upcoming meals for the week in medium/large sizes
- Tap any meal to jump to the recipe
- Available in small, medium, and large sizes
Grocery List Widget
Keep your shopping list visible and check off items without opening the app.
- Shows items from your active grocery list
- Check off items directly from the widget
- Displays item count and completion progress
- Available in small and medium sizes
Adding Widgets to Your Home Screen
There are two ways to add momoChef widgets to your home screen:
Method 1: Long-Press on App Icon
- Long-press the momoChef app icon on your home screen
- Tap Add Widget in the popup menu
- Swipe to choose the widget type and size
- Tap Add Widget to place it
- Drag the widget to your desired location
Method 2: Widget Gallery
- Long-press any empty space on your home screen until apps jiggle
- Tap the + button in the top-left corner
- Search for momoChef or scroll to find it
- Swipe to preview the available widget types and sizes
- Tap Add Widget to add it to your home screen
- Drag to position, then tap Done
Tip: You can add multiple widgets of the same or different types. Create a dedicated cooking page with the meal plan widget and grocery list widget side by side.
Configuring Widgets
Some widgets can be customized after adding them to your home screen:
Editing Widget Settings
- Long-press the widget you want to configure
- Select Edit Widget from the menu
- Adjust the available settings
- Tap outside the widget to save changes
Meal Plan Widget Options
- Meal Plan: Choose which meal plan to display (if you have multiple)
- Start Day: Set whether the week starts on Sunday or Monday
- Show Prep Time: Toggle cooking time display
Grocery List Widget Options
- List: Select which grocery list to display
- Sort Order: Choose between aisle order or custom sort
- Show Completed: Toggle visibility of checked items
Widget Refresh Behavior
Widgets update automatically to show current information:
Refresh Schedule
- Recipe of the Day: Updates at midnight local time
- Meal Plan: Updates every 15 minutes and when the app opens
- Grocery List: Updates immediately when you make changes in the app
Manual Refresh
If a widget seems out of date, you can force a refresh:
- Open the momoChef app
- Pull to refresh on the relevant screen (recipes, meal plan, or grocery list)
- The widget will update within a few seconds
Note: Widgets use minimal battery and only refresh when needed. iOS manages widget updates to optimize battery life.
Widget Sizes and Layouts
Each widget type offers different sizes to fit your home screen layout:

Lock Screen Widgets
On iOS 16 and later, you can also add momoChef widgets to your lock screen:
- Meal Icon: Shows your next scheduled meal as a small icon with time
- Recipe Count: Displays your total recipe count
- Grocery Items: Shows remaining items on your list
Adding Lock Screen Widgets
- Long-press your lock screen and tap Customize
- Select the lock screen to edit
- Tap the widget area below the time
- Find momoChef and select your desired widget
- Tap outside to finish
StandBy Mode (iOS 17+)
When your iPhone is charging in landscape orientation, StandBy mode displays widgets in a full-screen view. momoChef widgets look great in this mode:
- Recipe of the Day shows as a beautiful full-screen photo card
- Meal Plan displays your weekly schedule at a glance
- Perfect for keeping recipes visible while cooking
Tip: Use StandBy mode with the Recipe of the Day widget on your kitchen counter for daily cooking inspiration while your phone charges.
Troubleshooting Widgets
Widget Shows "No Data"
If your widget displays a "No Data" message:
- Make sure you're signed in to the app
- Check that you have recipes, meal plans, or grocery lists created
- Try removing and re-adding the widget
Widget Not Updating
If your widget seems stuck or outdated:
- Open the momoChef app to trigger a sync
- Check your internet connection
- Restart your iPhone
Widget Missing After App Update
Occasionally, widgets may disappear after an app update. Simply re-add them using the steps in the "Adding Widgets" section above.
